Interactive content filter

The problem

You want interactive knowledge checks and flashcards inside ordinary Moodle content — pages, labels, book chapters, forum posts — but embedded widgets are fragile, often breaking or getting stripped out when content is edited and saved.

The solution

The interactive content filter stores each widget’s definition on the server and drops a short text token into the content. On display it swaps that token for the live widget — so widgets render anywhere Moodle shows formatted content and survive editing intact.

Widgets anywhere

Renders self-contained Check-for-Understanding questions and flashcards inline on Pages, Labels, Book chapters, forum posts, and anywhere else Moodle displays formatted content.

Survives editing

The widget definition lives on the server, never in the page HTML, so it stays intact through re-editing and saving.

Simple to enable

Turn on a single filter and purge caches — there are no other settings to manage.

Enable the filter (administrators)

  1. Go to Site administration → Plugins → Filters → Manage filters.
  2. Set EDZ Interactive Widgets to On.
  3. Purge caches.

Authors and learners

  • Authors insert widgets through the AI editor tools menu in the editor; a preview card appears in place and survives re-editing.
  • Learners see the live widget on any page that shows the content, and answer the knowledge check or flip the flashcards inline.
