For students

When a quiz is proctored, your webcam is active throughout, and the system watches for behaviour that could indicate cheating. Here’s what to expect.

Before you start, you’ll see a consent screen explaining that your webcam will be on, what images are captured, how long they’re kept, and who can see them. You need to agree to continue. If you decline, you can’t take the quiz — speak to your teacher if you have concerns.

A short setup wizard checks that:

  • Your browser has granted camera access.
  • Your face is clearly visible and well lit.
  • Exactly one face is in frame.

Once the checks pass, the Start Quiz button activates. Proctored quizzes generally can’t be taken on a phone or tablet.

  • A small camera indicator sits in a corner of the page, showing a live thumbnail and a recording dot.
  • Snapshots are taken at intervals, and a few extra are taken if a possible issue is detected.
  • If something is flagged — your face leaving the frame, another face appearing, switching tabs, leaving fullscreen, or copy-paste — you’ll see a brief warning and a running count.

Continued violations can lower your attempt’s trust score, and on some quizzes may auto-submit your attempt. Stay in the quiz window, keep your face visible, and avoid switching away.
